Building our nation

The Group is committed to driving social transformation and B-BBEE in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable.

The Group’s commitment to building a sustainable local supply base is demonstrated through its role in partnering with certain key suppliers, the Department of Trade and Industry and other industry bodies in the establishment of two clusters aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the South African Clothing, Footwear and Textile Industry, namely; the Footwear and Leather Regional Goods Cluster and the South African Sustainable Textiles and Apparel Cluster.

Growing our people

Our associates (employees) are our most valuable assets and brand ambassadors. The Group is therefore committed to investing in our associates through skills and talent development, career and personal development, health and safety, wellness programmes as well as wealth creation through our share scheme for associates. We recognise the need for our workforce to be representative of national and regional demographics and continue attracting, employing and developing people from previously-disadvantaged groups.

The Group invests in the communities in which it operates, not only through employment, but also through positively impacting the lives of children and youth through MRP Foundation’s national imperatives.

Nuturing our planet

The Group recognizes environmental and climate change challenges and our responsibility towards building a sustainable business, community and planet.

Our most significant environmental impacts occur within the supply chain, during the process of production and transportation, as well as during the customer washing and drying of the apparel and textile products. To this end, in order to fully understand the climate change risk and impact on raw materials used in the production of the Group’s products, detailed and specific research appropriate to the needs of the industry is required. It is expected that the participation in the South African Sustainable Textile and Apparel Cluster will produce life cycle assessments that will assist the South African textile industry to make informed decisions in this regard.

The Group is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and targets have been set to reduce energy consumption and waste. Consumption figures and Key Performance Indicators are reported on in the annual integrated report.

Engaging our stakeholders

The Group recognises the importance of engaging with its stakeholders to ensure the long-term sustainability of the business. This process ensures greater transparency, as key stakeholder issues are identified and response plans developed.

MRP Foundation

The MRP Foundation has a vision for South Africans where young people create social changes by being inspired, healthy and engaged citizens. To achieve this, we focus on children from birth to 25 years as our beneficiaries.

MRP Foundation is a Non-Profit and Public Benefit Organisation that was established in 2006, to carry out the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives for the Group. We strive to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of young South Africans. Our main focus is on upliftment, especially of those less privileged, through education. The Foundation publishes it’s own activities on their website:
